But I can't use a compass so dont know which way to kneel. "causally in terms of belief" - can you really reduce motive and the whole spectrum of agency, of free will, to some causal machinery of belief? Of course not. That's my point. Not to deny the state role - as you seem to deny the family / background role. Responsibility is not some variable you can decide like guilt or innocence - for me. It may fade as people mature - but it never disappears. To suggest otherwise is like Keith to say - there's no such thing as society, ethnos, religion. Maybe that's your gig too?
