I guess Murray's points do seem abstract from our position in the (relatively) affluent west, but I think they'd be recognised and welcomed by people resisting on the sharp end of empire & colonialism, eg: in Palestine, Brazil, Bolivia, DR of Congo etc. Well, I don't think it has anything to do with our position in the affluent west whether we think violent resistance could have more than zero chance of achieving anything in the west which is what Murray was talking about. For me at least it has nothing to do with affluence - I don't have any - but with a rational recognition of the insurmountable disparity of the means of violence and the foolishness of pretending that disparity is surmountable. Murray can talk about it all he wants, but it's meaningless - is he going to pick up an AK 47 and march on Madrid with a few comrades? Does he think it's possible to organize an army that could defeat the Spanish military? - and in my view pretty silly and irresponsible. This has nothing to do with the right of people everywhere to resort to force to defend themselves from attack, something that's enshrined in international law and that I support wholeheartedly and always have. It's purely a matter of choosing rational tactics, something I would think people in Palestine or Congo would also want to do, whether those tactics would be the same for themselves or not.
