There is a nice circularity here - and in ways that perhaps Mel does not acknowledge. Her 'argument' serves to defend Israel and to protect it and its Zionist ideology from scrutiny. Jews have been for centuries 'othered' in the Christian west for obvious reasons and in the worst possible ways, as the root of all evil. Zionism buys into this 'othering'. It, like Nazism and Apartheid (as in SA), buys into the same bogus 'scientific racism' that developed out of Darwinism. Zionism, as practised in Israel, provides a template for ethno-nationalists everywhere. This is not good news for minorities everywhere, including the Jewish diaspora. We humans have cultural differences but, with goodwill, these can be negotiated. 'Race' is a biological nonsense. We are all one species. |
