It served to toxify Corbyn and the Labour Party. It enhanced divisions within the 'left'. It amplified the sense of betrayal over Brexit. As Ken intimated, 'antisemite' became code for Muslim lover, apologist for terrorism ('friends of Hamas' was repeated over and over; and was combined with 'IRA sympathiser'). If even the Labour Party can be portrayed as 'institutionally' racist, then that serves to legitimise racism more widely. It's a dangerous game the BoD, CAA, JLM have played. It's likely to redound on the UK's Jewish citizens. |
