Almost the whole of Europe was deforested to build the great European navies of 500 years ago or more. There are just a few square miles of primordial forest remaining, somewhere in Poland if my memory is correct. It was unsustainable but it fueled plunder. This is the current US debt vs. military base model. Plunder has now been handicapped as a model, and of course, there are limits to growth. I am sure it would be pretty easy for a mathematician to write an equation. easier than for the Drake equation. But as with the Drake equation, gambling on specific parameters for the 'long descent' equation seems a bit pointless to me. US survivalists seem to have been getting the params wrong for decades now. - Regards, Shyaku
