Tony Blair considers himself British: just like his sidekick Broon... Archived Message

...and who cares? I would have an Englishman anytime as First Minister of Scotland if his allegiance was to the polity of Scotland. "..for 91 of which we had Stuart Kings (29% of the time)." Steward kings were mixed Aristo-Norman like the rest of Europe's nobility (they were called "Stewart" because they descended from Walter FitzAlan steward originally to the Bishop of Dol-de-Bretagne.) England took James as king merely because he was actually Elizabeth's closest living relative: his great granny was Henry VIII's sister. On prime ministers I believe its eight in total beginning with John Stuart,Earl of Bute in 1762 so I'm not really sure what your idea of "parity" is but its clearly not the same as mine. I can't be arsed counting the party leaders, but going by the above your probably wrong there too: even taking into account that Labour was largely created by Scots. "I am very sympathetic with the pight of the Scots now" -Very nice of you... "..but honestly, such endless, pitiful victimhood." Ah!, it was merely a feint to cover being stabbed by a cliche... "It strikes me the Scots are at liberty to withdraw their MPs from London any time -" -I would withdraw them in a moment. "...they'd have one parliament instead of two, like everybody else..." Wonderful!...except one of those parliaments would be able to strike every single piece of legislation the other passes passes null and void. How does that strike you? Or declare UDI and have tanks on the street? "If the Scots had a bum deal...could it possibly be because, exactly as they are doing now, your own people sold you out? " -There's no "possibly" about it: every child in Scotland knows that Scotland was sold out by its own aristos and can probably sing you the famous song about it by Burns. "...They're just not-that-great?" Who's "not-that- great"? You mean the present SNP incumbents? I would agree, but then they don't have to be "great" at all to be far better than the Tories or Labour: merely competent. "If I said any of the the above in Scotland, I'm sure I'd get my head kicked in..." -Oh dear...another tired "Scottish" cliche... Do you realise how often I've had to to listen to this kind of stuff? Here are some more: Scotsmen are really Irish...Haggis is really French...the kilt was invented by an Englishman...and on it goes...all of course usually spouted by some poltroon who thinks affecting an attitude of condescension makes up for his "original" litany of usually misinformed cliches and... amazingly I haven't punched a single one yet...so its somewhat more likely you would meet a sigh...because yet another Englishman had decided to bore us to death by "telling us how it really is."
