as i'd rather have a mum than competitive GDP, Again this false dichotomy: lives versus money. The lockdown is creating a whole lot more damage than a not-so-competitive GDP. The UN is warning about hundreds of thousands of deaths of children. I'm afraid we are in situation 2 -- a government who doesn't care much for people. Otherwise they would have secured the old people's homes. It's a lockdown to give the impression they're doing something (plus ulterior motives for certain parts of the elite). People who feel vulnerable (your mum?) can always choose to stay at home -- it doesn't require the country to shut down. They could also get help at a fraction of the cost of an economic shutdown.
