The other really specious one without re reading the article is the argument about the number of people in ONS classification with covid also having "influenza or pneumonia" on death certification. The suggestion is that they are dying of another disease. The stat is influenza or pneumonia not influenza and pneumonia. All patients are getting tested for flu at the same time as the corona virus - fery few have it as can be seen in national flu surveillance reports. So patients with corona also have pneumonia mentioned on the death certificate. That is because the cause of death will be certified as 1a pneumonia caused by 1b covid 19. No mystery pneumonia sweeping through care homes killing patients. It's covid 19 doing what it does. stat after stat misused to misinform. |
