I guess, for us secular moderns, especially, climate change is a bit like death. We don't want to talk about it.
Facing our own negation - our lack of future - is disturbing enough.
Facing the real likelihood of a lack of future for our children and grandchildren (I have five grandkids) and for all else we hold dear is even more disturbing.
And, remember, climate change is only the most egregious of the insults to the natural world that is happening.
I agree the 'environmental crisis' is as much psychological as it is physical (if one can make that distinction).
Us secular moderns do not have the psychological framework to deal with the situation we are in. So, we resort to techno-optimistic fantasies or denialism.
Older religious traditions might provide a psychological framework for some. Which might explain Kingsnorth's conversion to Orthodox Christianity.
