Those of us who understand the gravity of the issues are under serious psychological pressure. Itīs a weight that is often too difficult to bear. Humans are not evolved to appropriately deal with huge challenges such as climate change and ecological collapse and even if one is willing to engage with the science, the escape hatch of denialism, greenwashing or technological delusions is often more appealing. As you say, itīs easier to block out uncomfortable truths few are willing to honestly confront.
This is why is so disheartening to see so much of whatīs left of the left, those who should know better, swallow unquestioningly the narrative of the past few years. There is a consolidation of power at the top, where the priority is increasing control of an increasingly fractured, frightened and confused population. Real health solutions are ignored, just as real climate and environmental solutions are ignored, because these would throw a spanner in the works of powerful interests. As much as I support doing everything possible to counteract the destruction of the environment, I think only civilisational collapse is the only hope to prevent total climate breakdown and catastrophe, which of course will bring another form of catastrophe upon us.
