Don't fly. Stay at home. Archived Message

There's no excuse for flying to visit relatives in these days of Skype and Zoom. It's just self indulgence. And off-setting is a con. More nonsense that we tell ourselves to justify our self-indulgence. Monbiot is actually very good on this. Many people are. It's just obvious stuff. And don't drive. Use public transport. Or walk, run, cycle. And if there is no public transport system in your area campaign for one. Or stay at home and read a book. Why would you pollute the air that your children and their children need to grow up in. Stay at home. Most of us live in very well off societies with pretty much everything available on our doorstep anyway. Brought there by somebody else who does the polluting for us. You know all this. Everybody does. And comes up with excuses. Or blames the fossil fuel companies while carrying on with their own wasteful profligate lifestyles. You know exactly what to do. We all do. But there ain't a chance in hell that we'll do it. We're sentencing future generations to a veritable hell on earth. And seeking excuses for doing so. The best one I've heard yet is "I did it for you, son". I had to do the shopping. I had to take you to school. I had to go to work to look after you. I had to visit you when you went abroad. I did it all for you. And, if you let me, I'll do it all for my grandchild too. Coz I really care.
