All I know is that if we become a less than viable Div I institution I will save $0000 of dollars. I don't believe in shoveling s##t against the tide.
For NIL we have nil. No amount of pleading will get us enough to compete. All these crazy rules are meant to limit all but the haves. I say let the haves battle it out for supremacy, all their donors can bleed cash into the pockets of athletes, or facility upgrades, or whatever they can grasp at to be better than their rivals. When 75% of universities are squeezed out, maybe something will change again. Maybe the rules will loosen up for the have nots to form their own divisions for actual amatuer athletes, or at least mildly compensated ones beyond scholarships. Something reasonable? Is it even possible? I doubt it.
It seems logical that donor money should first go to shore up the athletic department instead of going to NIL. Down the road, but highly unlikely, if the athletic department is more financial stable then more money should go into the NIL pot. There just is not enough money to realistically compete for players that can really make a difference if NIL money is a player priority.
Most schools, either P4 or mid majors, will not provide full scholarship type money, to the roster limits, for most of their sporting teams. However, to be competitive or remain competitive LBSU will have to significantly increase scholarships in MVB, BB, SB, etc if they want to be successful. I know from my own past interests, if the LBSU teams I follow stop winning my interest also decreases. Like it is always said, and especially in California, we like to follow winners or teams that have the potential to be winners. The dream is what drives some of us.
Mid majors like Big West schools should not yet be putting monies into NIL until more of the regulations and guidelines become clear. The arbitration factor itself can become expensive. LBSU does not have and will not have the capability for the monies needed for this.
LBSU should concentrate on providing a good education for athletes, and taking care of facility needs. We cannot do it all.
