The rankings of education mean very little if you don't analyze why the scores are what they are. Crime is up, poverty is up, suicide is up. Why are all these things up? Parenting and society as a whole have failed their children. Show me a student who is failing in school and I'll show you parents who don't really value education or lack the skills to be an effective parent. There's where the problem lie. Schools no longer can spend an all their time in school educating students. Students come to school hungry, parents coming home intoxicated, single family homes, poverty, suicidal, lack of proper health care, no food on the weekends, poor hygiene, lack of clothing, domestic violence, incest, sexual assault, teen pregnancies, and the list goes on and on. If students lack basic needs they are unable to learn. You can't blame all that on schools. The fact is that society, and particularily parents are to blame. |
