I'll start off by saying I love fish & chips. Probably from being raised by an English mother, and we had fish at least once and sometimes twice a week growing up. My dad was an avid fisherman, and was constantly bring home fresh fish to eat. I get a kick now a days out of people saying "Oh, you can't eat that fish, or that fish tastes too fishy to eat", etc., etc., etc. When I was a kid we ate everything my dad brought home, Northern Pike, Large Mouth Bass, Small Mouth Bass, Rock Bass, Sunfish, Bluegill, Perch, Crappie, Trout, etc., etc., etc. My mom battered everything, and it went into a pan of hot oil. Any way, I know Bob Jenkins owns Long John Silvers restauarants along with Taco Bells and maybe Kentucky Fried Chickens. He owns fast food reastaurant brands that are owned by YUM! Brand Foods out of Louisville, Kentucky. Formerly owned by Pepsi-Cola. YUM! owns Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Long John Silvers, and A&W restaurants. The last heard is they were trying to sell the A&W restaurant & Long John Silvers brand. I live on what's considered the north & northeast side of Detroit, and as far as I know we have 2 Long John Silvers. One is actullay in Rochester about 15 minutes from where I live. I actually stopped in there the other day, and the fish & chips I ordered was barely edible. You could ring the oil out of the fish, and the fries were over cooked and cold, and on the bottom of my basket there were all these little crispy burnt pieces of food. Not sure what that was all about. At one point of my life I would of went up and complained, but now it seems like I just move on, and don't go back to that restaurant. What a shame. I actually grew up by the other Long John Silvers in Warren, MI, and I remember riding my bike there, and having many delicious fish & chips meals. Maybe this is why YUM! is trying to sell the Long John Silvers brand. |
