Definitely a decline in Gurnard numbers. When i can go back through my figures and see the balance change from catching more Gurnard than Snapper to the reverse in the last few years more Snapper than Gurnard in Hawkes Bay then its apparent somethings not quite right. Mahanga and Ocean beach two prime Hawkesbay Gurnard beaches . God id shake ya hand if you caught a coupla Gurnard of them nowadays . This is what the Pania Surfcasting clubs Gurnard figures looked like back in the early 90s for this Species. If they want good hard facts and figures then the club has plenty, and should lodge our valuable data with the NZACA and put an address of concern to the Minister of fisheries.
