I mean what the ####? That's £7.38 for a normal eight hour a day job. What's the current minimum wage? £6.70. Yeah. I mean, I can do ####ing admin work and make £9/hour.
It's just not appropriate money for the work that I'm doing. I mean, I got like £150/day in London. I interviewed for a job that paid £350/day.
Let's see what they're paying in the US. Here's court work in Arizona. Not a state known for paying well. Starts at $42,000. That's not good by any means but it's way more than I'm making. Figure I make £1500/month. That's £18,000/year. That's about $27,000, something like that. It's poverty wages.
Look at this. North Dakota. Who wants to live there? Nobody. They're paying £4200 to $6200 a month for court work. They'll provide you with the equipment. Will consider graduates with no experience. So total entry level job in a shitty state and it's MINIMUM of $50,000/year. You also get health insurance and generous sick/holiday pay. I mean...you know? What am I doing here?
Puerto Rico. This job has been up since February. Open until filled. Job starts at £75,000 big ones. FOR PUERTO RICO. It's a third world country. You make $75,000 there and you're living in one of those gated communities with patrolling armed guards. I'm not qualified for this job, though.
But there has to be something. Here's this Coast Guard job I applied for. Starts at 50,000 big ones.
I'm going to have to start contacting these places. I'm possibly making less money now than I did at my first court job which paid £79/day.
Got new shoes a couple days ago. £89 which I can't really justify paying with these wages. Well, I guess my expenses are much lower than in London. I was looking at flats in the area and they're all like £400-450 when you deal directly with the landlord. I'm paying £525 through the world's shittiest agency. So even at this low wage I can afford shit but why just survive? I could make a lot of money in the Land of Opportunity.
Anyway, the new shoes. They're digging into my ankles. All new shoes do this. Am I getting the wrong size or does this happen to everyone? So I have to wrap my ankle in another sock and then try to get normal sock over that. But if it slips (as it often does) you end in severe pain until you can readjust it. And I get home and remove a sock just totally covered in blood.
There has to be a better way. Why don't they make shoes with a notch in the back? Maybe even put some padding in this area. The shoe eventually fits but it's like a month of torture.
Anyway, yeah. I was on the train and thinking about how "old masters" is an abbreviation. I must have laughed for five minutes. Fortunately, nobody else was on the train.
