Apparently, they stopped publishing the books in the mid 1980s because there was a fire that destroyed the original artwork. But...surely copies of the books existed. Why couldn't they just copy the books? Perhaps some touch up work would be required on the art but I can't imagine that this is difficult.
Anyway, my dealings with the Munch Bunch come from my school library. Every week, we'd go to the library to pick out a book. In about the sixth grade, somebody checked out the Dick Turnip book as a joke. "Dick" Hehe. Like a penis. Then next week, somebody else checked out the book. Then it got to be a fight to get to that book first. Then people started checking out other books in the series just as a consolation for not getting Dick Turnip.
It got to the point where the librarian told the teacher. "These books are for young children. Not sixth graders." So it stopped.
I don't think anyone knew it was British, though. Same with Mr Men, actually. Only now do I realise that Dick Turnip was a parody of Dick Turpin. Whoever that was. Oh yeah. A robber.
I think there was more British stuff in the US back then. There seems to be a slow process of removing British influence from the US. For instance, American actors up until the 1960s, I'd guess, were taught to speak in a British accent. That's why when you watch some interviews and whatnot of American actors and actresses in the 50s, they sound really poncy and uppity. They're trying to emulate an upperclass English accent.
Took a great dump today. Just liquid diarrhea. Maybe it was the kebab I had today. I feared it might have a tomato sauce but fingers are still okay.
Also been working out and sleeping a lot. It seems a bad sign. Why am I sleeping so much? Is it because of the working out? I did raise the weights really quickly. I was at 10 for three days then 11.5 or something for three days then 12.5 or something for three days.
I should have waited. Don't increase until the weight because really, really easy to lift. Now my right arm...it doesn't hurt but...it got tough to lift that maximum weight. And my right arm is my dominant arm. My left arm was able to do it no problem but not the right.
So tomorrow, I'm going back down to 10. Actually, maybe I should take the day off. Might need to heal.
You know what I could go for? A pudding-centred pastry. I think Hostess made them. Aw what. The internet claims that they were discontinued in the 90s. They still make the fruit pies at least. Oh. It seems that these are a new version and they have universally poor reviews. You can't go home again.
