this will always be a bone of contention in the motor trade, ive been a mechanic for 30 years, and my experience is this, during the eighties and nineties i could not have managed without doing foreigners, i had three small children and needed every penny i could get. i could earn in a weekend twice as much as i was paid in a week , some times on a friday night i would have six or seven cars outside the house waiting to be worked on, as a mechanic the only saleable asset you have is your knowledge, the job is, and always has been poorly paid, this is why we have an ageing work force and a lack of younger people coming into the trade.ive been lucky enough to work for people who have allowed me to use their facilities to work on my foreigners at night and weekends, its still meant doing 65+ hours a week to earn a decent wage.
