Over the past 35yrs or so we have had many visits from equipment manufacturers' site engineers. I would agree with the previous post, the majority have very little in the way of diagnostic skills. They mainly rely on swapping parts. The brake tester mechanic from one major supplier even had to borrow tools from us nearly every time he came. I try to do my own replacements where I can. Some consumables like batteries are priced to give profit in the order of 3-400%. Think how well we would do if we sold car batteries at that mark up.
