    Hi Peter

I think most techs would use their own judgement as to weather a fault is dangerous or requires attention within a few weeks/months

If it was a case of a badly leaking wheel cylinder etc, then we would contact and advise the repairs were carried out straight away

The main point of my post was that you must make the customer aware of any faults that require attention ASAP or within a certain time/mileage, and make sure your findings have been documented

I had an example the other day when a customer came in with for a pre-mot inspection on a 1988 Fiesta. It had a badly worn steering U/J and i advised him not to drive it or take it from the garage, but he insisted on driving it away. But before he went i gave him an invoice telling him it was in a dangereous condition and should not be driven. Far short of impounding his car what can you do?

    Peter
