Labour Rates Website
Posted by Peter Warman on August 28, 2007, 1:25 pm Seems the company that sells those expensive warranties on used vehicles is now getting its own back by bashing garage labour rates for servicing and repairs, they can no longer get us to fix their warrantied vehicles for £25:00 plus vat an hour Seems the owners and warranty companies complain when their top of the range BMW, Audi, Jaguar, Merc, Saab's ect require servicing with labour rates on average around £90:00 plus Well whats going to happen in a few years time when Independent Garages are locked out from repairing these vehicles because we have NO access to Technical Information for Access and Programming codes Customers and warranty companies can start to expect paying £200:00 to £250:00 per hour as they will only be left with one choice in where to have their prized possession serviced and repaired Perhaps the warranty companies would be better of spending their time putting pressure on the VM's to make it a more level playing field as they will among the loosers being held to ransom Peter

Re: Labour Rates Website
Posted by Tony Sefton on August 31, 2007, 8:34 am, in reply to "Re: Labour Rates Website" If The Customer wants a quick fix, He pays full price for all the hours put into the job, If he needs a definite price or doesn't want to spend anything on it then he takes it away. ( rarely ) I was Undercharging by quite a lot, But put my prices up to £30.00 + vat per hour, ( Thanks to the UKAT Survey ) I then broke up for Christmas last year and decided ( People are realising how much they get ripped off by dealers and are very reluctant to go to them ) One of My Customers came in last week with a 2003/4 Megane which had been to the Dealers, They Quoted for a Service and MOT @ £1200

Re: Labour Rates Website
Posted by Paul Gunstone on September 7, 2007, 11:11 pm, in reply to "Labour Rates Website" "How can they justify such a lot of money to plug a car into a computer!! The other problem is the dealer charged in units of an hour not hours - so you don't even know how long the job took". This bloke winging on about the diagnostic costs from the garage ends his post with: " Luckily there is a warranty in the car which paid the bill" This is the sheer mentality of some members of the public who still believe that it's a simple job to diagnose and repair cars for them!!! Rant over for a while,

Posted by Tom Williams on October 27, 2007, 11:21 am, in reply to "Re: Labour Rates Website" For those who don't read 'Honest John' in the Telegraph. He often hits the nail on the head. His recent response to a reader who was whining about labour charges said correctly that labour charges were tied quite closely to rateable values. These go up with property values. As for the labour charge website, I'll charge what I have to. If people don't like it, well, they've got a choice. Tom W
