Had a problem a couple of years ago with one of these. It came in with a starter issue & we started to do some tests just before tea break . One of the guys attempted to start it & it just clicked. He then went to make a cuppa. A couple of minutes later there was a smell of hot wiring & a curious mushroom cloud emerging from the engine bay of this Renault A panic ensued as we scrambled to disconnect the battery. Our conclusion was that the system had instigated start command & due to a weak battery or starter (cant recall the fix at the moment) the starter had remained energised without a hope of achieving its objective. Like most of these technologies, they are great whilst they are working, but when wear & tear takes hold, they create nothing but head scratching & confusion. Mind you, we shouldn't knock it. The French approach to car production is going to keep us in work through thick & thin. Don't get me started on electronic parking brakes
