Like most of these technologies, they are great whilst they are working, but when wear & tear takes hold, they create nothing but head scratching & confusion. No, what they produce is a new opportunity for the manufacturers to make a fresh sale (The clue is in the name!) As I have said elsewhere, IMO manufacturers “were” actually aiming to produce "better products" up until the late 80's, after that things started to go bad. (Some really old stuff was really innovative, it couldn’t last! I could bang on all night about the Rover P6, My dad had a contempary Mk4 Zephyr It actually had MCBs in the fuse box (IE you could reset them at the flick of a switch instead of having to scrabble around with fiddly fuses) Now they are awful! You want to talk about modern vehicles, Go talk to a taxi driver! I had a guy the other day with a Renault Espace diesel who reckoned that he had spent over £7,000 on "repairs" (IE over and above normal servicing, clutches, flywheels, injectors etc etc) over the last 90,000 miles keeping the *()&^%$ thing going (he cant have spent much more than that on fuel!  ) (By contrast I recon I have spent, oh, about £800 on "extraordinary" stuff on my ancient VW Transporter over the last 10 years/100,000miles. OK, it only gets 34MPG and a modern equivalent might get, oh 42! Whoopee eking do!) |
