I totally agree with all the above comments. I have had 1980's vauxhalls that have done 200K with no extraordinary repairs (with very regular oil changes etc) and my current partners 97 Mondeo has done 240K and only had springs and shocks fitted along with one clutch (all due to collecting steam roller parts from various european countries  ). I recently had a customer with a Clio that had a tiny bit of plastic broken on the window regulator and I had to get the whole assy at about £300! The VM's have gone stark raving mad. I used to think that the people who design these things must be quite clever but unfortunately I now think a child could do better by using the most reliable parts from old cars.
