... Elected or not (he's not), let's say he's an EU politician (though this is arguable). He's commenting on the democratic choice of the citizens of another country and the projected policy of that country itself. The extent of democracy in that country is irrelevent, and that's the same, dangerous, argument the west uses to attack / undermine / sew chaos in countries around the world - Maduro, Assad, Putin, Saddam... When this becomes justifiable, normal that's the end of the Westphalian system. Fine, that's not perfect, what's the alternative: a non-ethnic imperial system based on universal something-or-other. Please consider what values this supranational entity would be based on in Europe. It's liberalism, let's face it. See any problem there? Perhaps you're right about "the (sic) Brexit narrative". I would say however that the EU / remain narrative is just as absurd. Here's a quick rundown: - The EU is a sincere guarantor of human and civil rights and national rights - The EU is the expressions of a worthwhile enlightenment civilization - The EU is a field of prosperity, aka, money for its residents in the past, now and will be in the future - This "prosperity" is to do with free markets and open markets - not with domination and theft within and outside! See any problem there? Of course you can chop a bit. My take is that the "we're screwed outside the EU" narrative is a reactionary counsel of despair. Though it may still be true. From a Hippocratic perspective: every disease is also a healing crisis. You may die or come out stronger. Suppression just leads to (more) chronicity.
