No offense, but a certain mindset is running rampant in these times which you come uncomfortably close to flirting with. It's called exceptional circumstancism. Otherwise known as the game has changedism. Closely related to the enemy of my enemy is my friendism (leftists stress the importance of 'making allies', endorsing any and all strategy toward the cause . . . also related to intersectionalism, which is a moral credibility bank based on oppression points). Because Climate Change is sooooooooo urgent and serious, counter-arguments must be exluded and censored. Because rape is soooooooo awful and (allegedly) pandemic, presumption of innocence must be chucked. Because gays and women have had it sooooo lousy for soooooo many centuries, men, straights, and family structure must be re-engineered. Because Jews have suffered centuries of persecution, Israel must be above law and morality, and forgiven endlessly and unconditionally. Etc. etc. etc. Notice, too, how this mindset constantly dilutes definitions and shifts goalposts! Critics of climate campaigners and the ideologies they often align with - no matter how intelligent and reasonable said critics are, no matter that such a critic does NOT in fact deny climate change - are denialists and worse. (Note the terminology: Climate Change Denial, which is scorned on the same level as Holocaust Denial.) The same as critics of feminism being labeled misogynist, right-wing dinosaurs, etc. . The same as critics of Israel being labeled anti-Semite. I'm not saying YOU are this low, but you DO endorse certain behaviour, in some cases, that aligns with this 'exceptional circumstancism' mindset. The real issue is not the war disaster, the class disaster, the climate disaster, the economy disaster, the bully in the schoolyard, etc. No, the real issue - and it has been and will be ALWAYS the real issue, whenever and wherever there exists incarnate intelligent life - is how one responds to it. If you fear and censor opposing views, if you aim to change and control people, if you hate the enemy, if you make foolish alliances, if you make it your business to save the world rather than correct yourself, etc. etc. you have fallen for an ancient trap, common and effective as fly paper. "Ye of little faith" refers to those heading for the flypaper. And sadly, that's the majority of people. The issue is more deep, ancient, and serious than you seem to think. Instead of obsessing over the physical threats facing us, get sober to the actual consciousness-eating diseases growing and metastasizing before our very eyes. turtleman
