I don't think the anti semitism allegations have had much of an impact except to underline the detachment from reality between the political class and the rest. I would say the labour backtracking from the referendum result has had an impact, but it isn't the only one. The fact that so many blairites remain to keep the party the corporate entity that Blair solidified is probably a big factor, coupled with the fact corbyn seems to capitulate to the whims of such with barely a murmur. Public perception is no doubt key, and the media do indeed play a role in that. But dismissing so many as stupid because they see qualities they don't like is just convenient, and divisive. As ever the British state is king at dividing the people to deflect from the real culprits. And I don't think we're talking about labour voters switching to vote for the tories because labour are so hopeless. We're talking about new voters not voting for either because both are so bad. When people here keep on about the alternative (you know, if you don't love labour you must want the tories), they're avoiding the fact that most electorates are quite stable. If you want a new result you need new voters for that. To get new voters you need radically new ideas or motives. Voting for the less bad option isn't likely to be enough to draw new crowds of voters, and it's a bit of a piss poor reason anyway. As I've said before, I'll be happy to see a change from the tories, if only to observe the predicted characteristics of that leadership. I don't think I will, and no amount of exhortation on sites like this will make it happen. If the general mood is 'I have more important things to think about' then if labour's goal is to win (I'm not so sure), they haven't been doing their job. If their goal is to play the game, perhaps they have. But the public can't be blamed for it, and that seems to be to designated position when conversation here actually gets down to the nitty gritty. That problematic, it's very reflexively middle class imo to tell the great unwashed they're stupid, or off their trollies. It doesn't help, but it does reinforce positions.
