The Nazarene had many wonderful insights and things to say which are just as relevant to those with finely tuned inner ears now as they were 2000 years ago. But he hardly started it all or was the Source. The Buddha was sharing similar ideas, using different metaphors and for a different audience 500 odd years before. So was the Prophet, at around the same time and the Patriarchs even earlier.
Christianity as it is billed now is light years away from the chap who said Love one another, do not be afraid and The Kingdom of Heaven is within you.
From where I'm sitting, many of those who adhere to Christianity are indifferent to or complicit in wars against fellow human beings, are fearful and suspicious of others, and are ignorant of the true meaning of the Kingdom of Heaven which is an awareness of the Larger Reality and an inkling of one's place in it.
And this goes for followers of any violent, fear-based dogmatic belief system whatever name it calls itself. "Christianity" has no monopoly of those traits any more than it has exclusive rights to bits of the truth that came out of the mouth of a remarkable peasant 2000 years ago.
