...post-Carolingian "catholic" western Europe was schismatic - changed the wording of canons to which all Christians agreed nominally - ergo, also a splinter cult albeit quite a big one.
Christianity was always and remains for me a high, the highest aim to which few have really aspired, though many millions of sinners were inspired nevertheless.
Sorry to be scattergun but to answer your point fully would require a comparative exposition of the impact of Christianity throughout Eurasia and the Americas from the year dot till now, comparing also sacrificing heroes such as Bartolome de las Casas of Mexico with the likes of Cortés and Pizarro and their heirs, against the biblical, canonic and apostolic word and tradition and revelation, which is quite an interesting job albeit a rather large one.
