"In other words, we can feel free to rage and rend our garments over legal definitions, as long as nothing meaningfully challenges actual inherited class and/or gender privilege or the hugely unjust concentration of wealth and power in this country. " This is the default position in our society, but we can walk and chew gum: we can still care about rights for women while not completely throwing the tiny number of people involved in being transgender under the reactionary bus (whatever opinion we have about sex, gender and biology), and we can also call out the ridiculous twitter 'callout culture' from the left (as in the recent contrapoints controversy) when it's obviously being weponised by liberals to divide the left from its allies and to create a safe ersatz left. Maybe nuance won't win the 'culture war' but then maybe the only winning move is not to play, in either direction.
