Acts of War: The Behaviour of Men in Battle (2004) by Richard Holmes has some anecdotes. The 46th (North Midland) Division at Lens in 1917 (1919 repr. 2011) Lieut. P.S.C. Campbell-Johnston has two "jocular" descriptions of the killing of prisoners.
