Re: "Disco was a good thing"
Why should we say that disco was a "good thing?" Disco had a few solid records, but does it really compare in terms of musical depth to a genre like funk? Disco often fell victim to many cultural cliches that make it especially dated, and much of disco was simply less creative and challenging than the best funk records of the 70s by the likes of James Brown, Sly, P-Funk, etc. And most of the time disco supporters have trouble naming actual masterpieces of the genre or really ANY memorable albums of the genre beyond a couple. I get that we want to be inclusive and less "rockist," but doesn't this feel like a stretch?
