It's an efficient vehicle for delivering solid dance rhythms (in the last couple of years I've come to the idea that Disco : Funk :: Punk : Rock is an analogy with some merit); it can provide a solid foundation for incredibly addictive instrumental work on top; it injected new life and energy into Motown as a whole and many veteran artists (short version: Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye aside, if you were a veteran Motown artist in the 70s, either you successfully integrated disco into your sound or you died); and even after it crashed as a genre unto itself its best aspects were cannibalized by other interesting genres for years to come. So maybe it's not a thing of "Disco was always good" (which isn't what I meant) but I think "Disco was definitely a net positive" (which is closer to what I meant) is absolutely valid.
