The backlash to disco was especially severe though. The famous example is an anti-disco riot in Chicago attended by tens of thousands of people who set off disco records in a huge explosion. It's generally accepted this was influenced by the perception of disco as music for black and LBGT listeners that was intruding on the mainstream. Maybe comparable to something like gamergate in 2014. From a modern perspective it would therefore be prudent to not let ourselves be biased against disco without critically examining our motives.

On the other hand, I can't name more than 10 good disco songs, none of which were made by dedicated disco artists.
