I'm trying a new thing where my search range is 18-20. Then when I run out of 18-20 year olds, I move it up to 21. Then the next day, I set it back to 18-20 because new people join. And again, when I run out, I move it up to 21. Then 22 when the need arises. Haven't needed to go up to 23 so far.
I'm getting a bit disappointed with this flat search. I haven't found ONE decent place. I may have to go with a non-decent place.
Did I mention that I made £1600 last week? If not, I made £1600 last week. But...I don't seem to be getting much work. I had two days this week (one day is already cancelled) and then I have a day next week, nothing the week after, and one day the week after that. That's it.
I guess when I move, I'll have an excuse to email all the solicitors again. I'll mention my rates. Maybe that will help. Also, there are companies who I emailed who apparently didn't receive it. I'd send to the generic email address rather than to anyone specific. So maybe I should look for a specific person to email. There were also firms that didn't supply an email address or have a website (which is remarkable) so...I don't know...I don't want to call them.
Anyway, just go through the process of looking this shit up again after I move. Give people a reminder that I exist, let them know that I've moved, and give the rates. And my CV.
The problem is that people don't care. I have a company who gave me three jobs. I went to one such job today. So repeat business is good but he was asking me today if I'm available for short notice. I said, "it depends." He seemed to indicate that he was looking for somebody other than the company. So it's not that I'm amazing, it's just that he doesn't like dealing with the company.
But...I am amazing. I'm the only person doing the job in the entire country. And what I'm doing is inherently superior to what the other people in the same field are doing. Nobody cares, though.
That job I did last week, one of the lawyers was talking to me about the machine. He was talking about how fast I operate and he used the phrase "It's just cool" at least three times. So people are impressed. I get these sort of comments semi-regularly. But this doesn't seem to translate to jobs.
It's not necessarily anything to do with me. People might just be happy with the people they're giving the work to already and they don't want to upset the proverbial applecart. Still...if people knew and cared that I'm offering the best service in the country at the lowest price, I'd be getting every single job out there.
Whatever. I have options. Plenty of options.
$20/hour for a job in the Kansas courts. That's nothing to sniff at. Actually, sniffing would be appropriate. I made $15/hour at that crazy house 15 years ago. $20/hour for a professional job? Go fornicate with yourself.
2,750/month in Nebraska? Get real. Wait...that's $33,000. I don't know. It's low. Oh, it's part-time too. So yeah, that's fine. Depends how part-time, I guess.
Oh here we go. North Dakota. $4,280 - $6,418 a month. They'll supply you with the equipment. I already have the equipment but this suggests that they'll take newly-qualified people. Yeah, will consider graduates with no experience. Plus transcript fees. Health insurance and vacation package. That doesn't look bad. £51,000/year minimum. And it's not like North Dakota is expensive to live in.
Actually, it seems that rents are 20% higher than in Glasgow. Food 25% more. Still...I'd be making more money. Of course, I'd need a car...man. There's always something. But yeah, they seem to be looking for absolutely anyone. So somebody with 8 years experience...it's got to be worth something. They don't even ask to be certified, though I really should be getting that.
