Retarded children become retarded adults. But they still think like children so they can't live independently. That kid will live with that mother (and the kid who my sister babysat for if he sticks around) for the rest of their lives. And when the mother and this kid I knew die, that retarded guy won't have anywhere to go.

Now, that's sad, of course. It's sad that somebody has to be a burden like this but it's the risk one takes when one has children and I hope that this mother will do her best to care for this person for the rest of her life.

Nevertheless, it's difficult to take care of a special needs child in the best of circumstances. This is a special needs child who is 200 pounds as an 8 year old. He's going to be 400 pounds as a 15 year old. "Retard strength" is something of a myth but that kid is going to grow up to be HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. Good luck trying to control his outbursts.
