the problem of the coding of car parts to specific vehicles which nobody seemed to pick up on.
So we've managed to get a reasonable system introduced with the 16 pin EOBD. We managed to win the argument for the warranty servicing on the newer cars. Do we need to exert some pressure on this coding nonsense which seems to be a blatant restriction of trade.
Here we are being actively encouraged (now with the promise of a fine if we don't) to recycle our empty weetabix boxes, junk mail, empty tins etc. but you have a 10 year old car sir? You can't go to the breakers for your parts any more because they need coding? Sorry you'd better throw it away and buy a new one. How green is that? The coding of parts to cars is totally unnecessary but of course the manufacturers have a vested interest in such systems, as do the main dealers and I suppose to some extent, the diagnostic equipment brigade. I suppose it is like politics, anything can be justified if it is either green or anti-terrorist, but we'd better not go down that road.
