Hi Steve. I believe due to the type of work we undertake, most of us could run foul of the sort of action you are threatened with. Its a worrying prospect. The first time it happened to me I sort the advice of a local solicitor famed for his litigation technique. He simply instucted me to contact Trading Standards in our area, asking to speak to the head person. Inform him you ran a reputable operation and a brief description of what you were accused of. I was then told to bide my time. The customer then tends to get quite verbal at not getting their own way , even better if they put it in writing. I was then advised to write back heading the letter (Without Prejudice) stating my case and would be taking advice from my Solicitor regarding any slanderous remark. Also add in the letter copies to your Solicitor and the the person you spoke to at Trading Standards. I have used this method several times in the 24 years of trading with complete success. Hope you go on alright. Best Regards Derek S.
