My guess is this is a two coil wasted spark system? For the coils to pack up like this I would imagine that they are remaining switched on and there for overheating and burning out (of course I have a vivid imagination!) Have you checked the resistance of the primary coil windings to prove the fault? If this is the case then I believe the coils are switched directly by the ECU and there maybe lies your problem.
