This is very interesting, I have a a 2002 z16 se in at the moment setting the same code. When it originally came in the code would set on start up but I couldn't see a major problem in the signals, so I checked the timing and keyways. They were both OK with the correct tension.
My vehicle has now (for some reason) stopped setting the code on start up but sets the code again when you get to a certain RPM. Mine maybe a different problem
The interesting thing is I can actually catch my CAM signal breaking down, sometimes the sensor + is effected too and sometimes the ground is effected and sometimes the signal is corrupt and both the sensor + & - are uneffected??
I have thought of a dodgy connection at the sensor but I can not see anything obvious and it passes a wiggle test.
Basically I feel there is something fishy going on.
It reminds me of Dave Hills 'uneplained capture' post I have seen somewhere. Where he is working on a VW/Audi where the head has been replaced and has the totally wrong Cam pulley/pickup fitted for the ECU to recognise. Upon closer inspection he realised that the wrong pulley could not phsyically draw the image he was seeing on his scope.
I believe the ECU had some influence on the signal being generated.
This maybe totally different but it is very interesting to see, just by changing the CAM sensor, it would cause your CAM sync to advance by roughly 18 degrees???
This is the capture of my suspect vehicle Cam v Crank SYNC.
Hopefully someone has got one of these in today with no faults to confirm which one of your Sync is correct.
I have got to go to work now but this is very strange.
Well spotted Tony
Cheers for now
James
