Thanks for the replies.
Lee, I did give the car a run round the block to ‘shake’ the belt / pulley assemblies and also applied a sprocket holding tool to the cam sprocket to see if any movement was apparent in either sprocket ... none !!
Each time I scoped it afterwards & got the same second pattern.
The cam sensor is fitted into a receiver hole in the cam housing, on the bulkhead side of the engine & retained with a single bolt, so no dowels for the sensor to move on, although I did not remove the crank sprocket to check keyway, just the crankshaft pulley to check alignment marks.
The owner will be in later to pay me & also to arrange for timing belt replacement as vehicle has done 74K.
So time & workload permitting I’ll re-scope & also ask him if any running or light issues have transpired.
James, funny you mention occasional signal drop out, one time I scoped I had a cam signal of just 3.5v - 3.7v, Although I put that down to a bad back probe as it didn’t return after removing & replacing probes, So maybe muddying the waters with that.
I’ll keep you informed of any developments, thanks again.
Cheers, Tony
