I don't like referendums very much. Their way too simplistic, especially for something as difficult and complex as the UK's membership of the European Union contra pulling out of it. I thought the referendum, the one I voted in almost half a century ago, was supposed to be the really final and important one, about the UK joining the EEC. I feel a bit miffed that the result of that referendum has been pushed aside by the last one. Perhaps there should have been a referendum about whether or not we should have a referendum? I find it odd, bizarre, that a referendum called by a Tory PM for internal Tory Party reasons, to flatten the Tory ultra-rightwing, gets so much support from people who say they are on the left. Let's have referendums about simpler subjects, like legalising all drugs, abortion, capital punishment. There's so much to chose between. Let's have a guarantee of another referendum in five years time when we see how Brexit turns out.
