I can't see why Keith or subhis points could be contentious. Give an inch, lose a mile. As soon as it becomes tactics you become all the worst things about politicians, that is, political expediency for a forgotten long game. Kind of like corbyn- where so many good people are thrown under the bus because he doesn't want to make waves. Deciding when political compromise becomes complicity in injustice is not an exact science. When Norman Finkelstein says - or said, not sure where he stands on the issue now - that the right of return cannot apply to the five or six million Palestinians in the diaspora and that the insistence on that right must be compromised for political realities, is that a "f*cking liberal bleat"? Pretty insulting and idiotic to say that to someone who has dedicated his life to fighting Israel's crimes. Anyone who thinks compromises are not a part of political engagement is living in a dream world. Personally, I don't think a public intellectual abstaining from provocative tweets is a big compromise, especially if it means preserving a platform to reach hundreds of thousands of people. Is that saying people should walk on eggshells all the time? Not at all. Just don't give your opponents ammo for no reason. People can differ on whether that's an accurate description of the tweet in question without hurling invective and hysterical hyperbole.
