It's attitudes like yours Keith that proves how toxic Brexit has become. Democracy is like a river, not a damn. It flows and changes and adapts to circumstance. The idea that democracy is somehow immutable or as simple as you paint it, the only colours you seem capable of using being black or white, is to demean democracy as some sort of date stamping of history. The Labour leadership (though Corbyn was probably persuaded against his better inclinations to take this position) certainly have misjudged the electorate's determination to leave the EU, but that's a political misjudgement, not an undermining of democracy. But what can you do when reason goes out the window? Not just the Grimsby fisherman praising Boris for a being a chap just like himself, but that millions of English people would rather leave the EU even if risking a serious economic downturn or the end of the union with Scotland. And they'd rather vote for a Tory who cares not one whit for them, except as political fodder, than a kind and compassionate man who has genuine difficulties reconciling two increasingly hostile factions in the country at large but which hasn't stopped him trying. This election took place within a fact free and reason free zone, and leaving the EU will happen in the same way.
