There is also a decent number of trevally there, but this depends on the condition of the river, the trevs are caught at the mouth. I really like the area, to me low tide is best, fishing the spit area.
Weather is your biggest issue, but if it plays ball you will enjoy it, huge kahawai in that area, and they are the main catch.
Personally though, there are more exciting areas to fish like waikawau, through the tunnel ect... Might be a good time to door knock for private access
