Re: Planning a trip to mokau
To be honest i used to do alright at Whiritoa at this time of year, manly on Gurnard. Paps a bit hit and miss unless you got a quad and head down towards the Kaituna cut. Grant place is not to bad to fish off in summer and autumn, same with the far end of beach road, but we notice the difference in catch bags on club weekends of those that dont go down the beach as far. Rogers road was good on the weekend for me and the father n law, he came over to get away from the sea lettuce, a hand full of kahawai, 1 gurnard and 5 snapper between us. Two best snapper went 3.4 & 3.3 kgs. Have you try Aotea habour? Used to be good for trevs and kahawai up towards the entrance. Try loosing the pully rig set up for the east coast, never worked for me. Running rig on short 6 inch traces, no floats just bait. Waihi will fish better in December for king fish and good size trevs, and the odd snapper after dark.
