Yeah i have fished the northern end twice for 0 so fished the southern end straight out off the last car park and always come home with a feed of snapps and gurnard. Baby squid, and i mean the tiny ones, or small bits of pillie or anchovies. The snapper i did catch were not large there 30cm but still always enough for tea the next night for 4. The reason i use a short trace and running rig with small baits is for distance. Seems the further the cast the faster the bite there, and fish well into the dark on a rising tide to increase your chances more.
