south end of whiritoa is 7m deep (could explain why my mate has been getting tope there)middle is 4.6m deep,north end is 3.6 then drops off to 8m of water going by chart NZ541, hopefully i can get out on saturday or sunday as I am tied up tomorrow and friday doing a supervised hamilton to auckland freight run to get my class 4 drive time up to go towards my full class 4 license license on those two days. And yes i would not be suprised if it was those bloody spotties having a go at the mussel baits but what ever it was they were good sharp taps going by the rod tip in saying that I have half a dozen of those fresh mussels shucked and salted down for the next go will be getting a few more to salt down from pak n save for extra bait options.
