I didn't like the beaches that much, around Mokau. Seemed pretty shallow to me.River mouths looked pretty good tho. Had lunch at the local pub. There were Best Catch boards up for the local fishing club, asked the Publican what the surfcasting was like around Mokau. He told me the Kontiki's had thrashed it to death, so rod casting was pretty useless these days. Stayed at the Mokau Motor Camp and all I saw was countless quads and kontiki's heading down the beach. Around 20 I counted. That was it for me. Bye bye Mokau.
Did have a look through the tunnel, that is public access. And that looked really good, nice headland there to, looked very fishy indeed. Imagine you would have to keep an eye on the tides tho. And pick a sorta calm day. Was a bit rough the day I was there. Wasnt that impressed with Marakopa, bit of a hike to the rivermouth for an ole fella like me, if I had a quad, guess I would have been impressed. Ole Geno used to talk that area up. Whatever happened to him.
