It is only the occasional show on TV (like Top Gear) that feels comfortable to say it like it is and they get their funding from other sources. The understandable commercial reality in NZ is that we need sponsored shows and firms only sponsor a show if they feel that they will sell more of their products. They want people to associate their brand and catching fish. There is nothing wrong with that - if I owned a tackle brand I would want to do the same thing myself. But it does mean that the shows tend to emphasise the inspirational rather than being an opportunity to teach new skills. So personally, I would prefer more time on helping with the skills side (deciding where and when to fish, reading the water, rigs etc) and slightly less on the time between when a fish is hooked and it lands onshore. I would feel comfortable if some weeks it was hard for the hosts to catch fish - that is what happens. One possibility for a series is an ordinary person (male or female) is taken from the street and taught how to fish.
